College Application Writing Fees

College Application & Essay Writing Fees

I have two fee structures: A comprehensive fee of $1450.00 and an hourly rate of $150.00. I offer a free consultation to help you decide which option is best for you.

For the comprehensive fee, I spend as much time as is necessary helping the student write the 650-word personal essay for the Common Application. I don’t limit the number of drafts the student can show me or the number of hours I spend with the student. This option is best for students who have not started the essay or have written one draft.

If the student has already written a number of drafts and needs helping tightening and clarifying her ideas, you might want to select the hourly rate. The student can send me a draft and I’ll provide a free consult: This includes a critique of the draft and an estimate of how much time I think we’ll need. I don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach. My services are tailored to your individual needs, deadlines and budget.

I charge by the hour for the supplemental essays.

A note on the Supplemental Essays: These essays are extremely important. Every college and university prides itself on having a distinctive culture and brand, and they really want to know why you would be an especially good fit for them. They don’t want you to regurgitate facts about their institution you find on-line. Like the personal essay, a strong supplemental essay can help focus the central themes of your application.

About the Comprehensive Plan

When a student does a comprehensive plan with me, I spend a great deal of one-on-one time with the student, either in person or on Skype. In the beginning of the process, my role is to encourage the student to generate a lot of writing; these early sessions are also an opportunity for me to get to know the student so I can best help her to tell her story. In between the one-on-sessions, the student and I are communicating by email about each draft. Students (and their parents!) find it especially helpful for me set up deadlines and writing schedules.

As someone who has been teaching writing for more than thirty years, I know how to help a student write the best essay possible. But just as valuable is my experience on the Wellesley College Board of Admissions. I know how admissions officers read the college essays because I’ve done it myself , and this knowledge has proven invaluable in my work as a college essay coach.
